SPIRITS AND SPIRITUALITY

I dreaded getting into bed that night. Like clockwork, they were back and after another night of terror, I began to wonder. I am sure you are wondering too. Why did I go
back to bed that night? Why did I not scream and run away in terror? I asked myself those questions too but no answer. It was as if I was frozen and could do nothing.
I was just a newly born-again Christian, and I did not know much. But the third night, I sat up straight in bed and cried out Jesus… Jesus… Jesus as those creatures came
up the bed. I kept saying His name until I fell asleep. When I woke up, they were gone; never to come back again.
Thinking back, 3 nights of at least 8 hours, those black figures moved up the bed maybe about 1 foot. What did that mean? I would have figured that they would have dragged
me to hell in those 3 nights. Was it a scare tactic? To get me to deny Jesus? To focus on fear and not Jesus?
I confessed to Jesus; why did He not do anything? And the answers came much much later.
I remembered my family, when in sorrow saying, “if this is what being Godly is then I do not want it. Take it back, God! Take it back”
Maybe that is what the devil thought I would do or say? I am so glad my mouth was shut, and no such words came out of it. As for Jesus, I realized that I needed to know who I was and the authority I have over the devil.

Jesus defeated the devil and had victory over the devil. I needed to confess to Him. I am so glad I exercised that authority and the devil, and his creatures had to flee. My mouth opened at the right time. The devil and his creatures cannot touch God’s children. If we fear him, we can deviate, out of fear, from the ways of God. When we listen to his worldly advice, we can stray from the narrow and straight path.

That is why God gave us this verse.
‘For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.’ (2 Tim. 1:6–7.).
I had to repeat this verse over and over again before it got into my heart and all fear left me. But this was not until I turned 60 years old. Wow! God is patient with the likes of me.
