You know when you are passionate about something, you think about it all the time, you try to do it every time you get a chance. You want to share with everyone you meet.
Well, that is me and cooking. However, I am a disaster in the kitchen. When I am trying out a recipe, my kitchen is like a war zone ( sounds like an introduction to a comedy show!)
—peels everywhere, flour flying in the air, a thousand pots , pans, utensils, measuring cups (not really!).. the list goes on as they lay strewn all over the kitchen counter, floor and I sometimes must borrow the dining table!!!!!
Once, I checked myself in the mirror as I was running to the kitchen to check the oven. I looked like the white dough boy in the Ghostbuster’s, and I am not even white.
But the worst thing about trying a recipe by an avid cook such as I, is that it never comes out right. Seriously!
But I always had an excuse , the most popular being, “ Man! I do not have the right equipment”
“Where’s the steamer when I need one!”
“ I thought I bought enough coconut milk…Man…..Where is it?!”
I am ashamed to say it; if I gathered all my disasters, I probably could feed a whole hungry village (if they will eat it!)
And yet I keep going, trying, researching, dreaming of being a famous chef owning many cafes like Bobby Flay (as if!) or Guy Fieri!!!!!
One day ….I say “One day”
I wonder what would happen if I did the same with my faith.
When I was a young Christian as the bible says in 1 Corinthians 13: 11-12 “
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
As a child, I want to do everything myself. My ears are not open to hear Holy Spirit. I listen to my body and not my spirit.
I put myself in a lot of situations where I have made stupid decisions and accumulated trash in my life. 2 husbands, moving from place to place, so many jobs, no close friends ……TRASH.
Many times, we do not know what to do with the trash and so we sweep it under the carpet. 2 things will happen ; One, we will stank up the house and two, we start to feel guilty about all that trash. The amazing thing is that we know what we should do, as Christians we are asked to go to the Father and ask for forgiveness and do not do it again.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Hebrews 8:12
“For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
James 1:17
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
There are so many verses directing me to God but that would mean I have to say oops! I made a mistake. It is my fault. My whole life is a mistake.
We who are body controlled, rather collect trash. We are slow to surrender and follow God.
It has been hard giving control over to Holy Spirit and listen to the Lord. I spend a lot of time sweeping out the trash, lots of yelling at myself, focusing on my spirit, praising God when tempted to keep the trash. This bible verses have helped me to stay focused.
2 Corinthians 4:7-9
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;
9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
I have replaced mush of the trash with treasure; healing of physical problems- diabetes, neuropathy; financial restoration. Permanent job that I do not intend to abandon after 3 months (with the help of Holy Spirit) and a church where fellowship doors have been opened to me. God is great! There is still some trash left under the carpet, but my treasures are what I focus on.
This is what God says,
Isaiah 45
3 I will give you hidden treasures,
riches stored in secret places,
so that you may know that I am the Lord,
the God of Israel, who summons you by name.
