I am the last person to talk to you about love. I have made some terrible mistakes and some awful choices in life. But if Jesus can love me enough to die a shameful and painful death on the cross for me then there is something special about me that supersedes all those terrible mistakes and awful choices. I can talk about love because Jesus loves me unconditionally. You see Jesus was and is THE perfect EXAMPLE OF TRUE LOVE.
In the bible, in the book called Hebrew, it says
Since we, God’s children, are human beings—made of flesh and blood—he became flesh and blood too by being born in human form; for only as a human being could he die and in dying break the power of the devil who had the power of death. Only in that way could he deliver those who through fear of death have been living all their lives as slaves to constant dread. We all know he did not come as an angel but as a human being—yes, a Jew. And it was necessary for Jesus to be like us, his brothers, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God, a Priest who would be both merciful to us and faithful to God in dealing with the sins of the people. For since he himself has now been through suffering and temptation, he knows what it is like when we suffer and are tempted, and he is wonderfully able to help us.
That my friends, is all about love.
When we read,
Matthew 22:34-39 Jesus tells us what we need to do.
34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
Throughout the new testament of the bible, especially
1 John, 2 John and 3 John we read all about that LOVE. It is all about love 3 ways – God and Jesus for us; us for us; us to all mankind
When our focus is on Him, we begin to understand where His heart and love is: for each of us, His people. Because of His love for us, we are able to love who we are and in turn love others We need to love God with all our being not just going around saying I LOVE JESUS AND I LOVE YOU BUT inside our heart is not with Him or for Him or his people. God sees through an insincere heart.
Many of us, no. all of us are born into different circumstances and environment. We meet people who mean something to us but others do not. They are like passing lights in the road of life. Some lights are dim while others are so bright, we cannot but be mesmerized. We love and spend time with those who we think love us and for some of them, we are willing to do anything. While others, we avoid especially those whose light bother us. We are quick to judge according to their race, color, physical appearance and the way they talk, eat.. Whatever that helps us to move on but God’s second commandment is to Love your neighbor as yourself. Learn about who you are by meditating on His Word. Love others in your neighborhood, community, believers and non- believers alike as well as your own family- forgiving others, being humble, helping others, anyone around us; people, God brings into our life
Love our neigbour as ourselves. How much do we love ourselves?
